Under the Rainbow Child Care Services offers a Multicultural Environment
We are part of the North American society, which is comprised of a diverse array of ethnic groups from all over the world.  We seek to honour the different heritages by including traditions, cultural foods, songs and dances, stories and celebrations in our child care programming.

By doing so, we hope to expose the children to opportunities to develop an awareness of,  to explore and become accustomed to and appreciate the many cultures and traditions of those living around us.

We strive to incorporate multicultural education in all areas of the program, and we invite parents, families and community members to share their heritage with us.

What Under The Rainbow Child Care offers your child:

    • We provide the child with opportunities to develop a sense of positive self-worth
    • We encourage the child to develop social skills such as cooperation, listening to others, and sharing with other children.
    • We encourage the child’s natural curiosity and desire to learn
    • We foster positive attitudes toward work and play
    • We offer a variety of learning experiences in which the child explores and manipulates the environment around him.
    • We help the child to develop physically through good nutrition and gross motor activities
    • We encourage the child’s natural creative abilities through the use of a variety of creative materials
    • We encourage independence through practicing self-help skills
  • LICENSING AND TRAINED STAFF
  • Under the Rainbow Child Care Services is licensed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and adheres to the regulations of the Day Nurseries Act for safety and quality in all areas of the child care program.
  • Our Teachers are trained professionals who hold diplomas in Early Childhood Education.  All teaching staff regularly attend professional development workshops, seminars and conferences to enhance their skills in interacting with children.
  • OUR PHILOSOPHY
The Staff at Under the Rainbow Child Care Services are committed to providing a stimulating learning environment to help each child grow and learn to their potential.
We strive to instill in our program ample opportunities for the children to stretch their minds, as well as explore, grow and develop their critical thinking skills.  We believe they can function successfully in todays and tomorrows world by developing the following areas:
  • positive sense of self-worth
  • Respect for self, others and the Earth in which we live
  • Self-control through an awareness of emotions in self and others.
  • Positive communication and thinking skills

MISSION STATEMENT

To share an experience with parents, caregivers, and their children; by providing activities, ideas, sharing circles, and workshops that will enhance learning abilities, spark imaginations and ignite an air of wonder between adult and child.

What the program offers:

  1. Our Resource Centre is designed to meet the needs of all families.  A community drop-in program is available, where parents or caregivers can come in and play with their children.
  2. The Toy Lending Library is well stocked with educational and fun toys, books, puzzles and board games
  3. We also provide educational workshops for parents.  The parent circles are based on the needs and interests of the participants.  For your convenience a Child Care Program is offered while you attend the workshop.
  4. We are Wheel Chair Accessible and located on the Fort Erie Transit Bus Route.

Community Drop-In Playgroup:
There is a variety of learning centres/areas for play that provide many opportunities for parent/child interaction.
Parents/caregivers are always responsible for their children while taking part in the playgroup activities
A Nutritious snack is provided on a daily basis.

Children must be accompanied by their parent/caregiver while in the toy library.

Parent Circles (Workshops):
Educational workshops are offered monthly.  Information will be posted and you can contact the Child and Family Resource Centre coordinator for further details on registration.

Most workshops will be based on the needs and interest of the parents/caregivers.

Previous topics have included:
child development, behaviour management, nutrition, car seat safety, scrapbooking, stamping, and child proofing your home….

In Previous years The Child & Family Resource Centre was a 10 month program that ran from September to the end of June…but…GREAT NEWS….The Child & Family Resource Centre was approved this year for summer funding.  That means, WE’RE OPEN FOR JULY AND AUGUST….AND starting 2008 it will become a full-time program and run continuously throughout the year.

Drop-In playgroups will continue through the summer months, with an emphasis on culture within program planning.  I will be working with the teachers within our child care centre to organize special days and visitors for the children.  I will also continue co-programming with the Aboriginal Prenatal and Nutrition Program on Thursdays, for our “Blanket Babies” Program.  Blanket Babies is a program for new and expecting moms to enhance parenting skills and parent/child interactive play.  It is also a sharing and support circle.  Periodically we offer workshops for the parents/caregivers focusing on the needs and interests of the participants.  (Ex. Infant care, self-esteem, nutrition, budgeting).  A nutritious lunch is provided for participants every week.
We have 2 months full of fun planned for all participants……looking forward to a fun summer…..
